Elder Class 2025 - 2026

Dear all,

Welcome to the Elder Class Pages. We are a small, but enthusiastic, mixed-age class of 23 children comprising Year 5 and Year 6.

This spring term, we are continuing our learning journey through Cycle A, with a rich and engaging curriculum planned across all subjects.

In English, our writing will be inspired by powerful and thought-provoking texts including Wonder and Macbeth. In reading, pupils will explore a wide range of fiction, non-fiction and poetry, including texts such as Wonder, The Boy in the Tower, Refugee, alongside space-themed non-fiction and poetry.

Other areas of learning this term include:

Mathematics – Multiplication and Division (Year 5 and 6), Fractions, Decimals, Percentages, Shape, Position and Direction, and problem-solving.

Science – Living, Growing and Changing: Living Things and Their Habitats.

Music – Singing and playing in different styles, developing melody, harmony and ensemble skills.

ComputingProgramming A – Selection in physical computing and Data and information – flat file databases 

Art – Typography and Maps: developing drawing and design skills to create bold, highly visual maps.

History – The Transatlantic Slave Trade.

Religious Education – Life as a Journey: Is every person’s journey the same? Why do people of faith make pilgrimages?

Physical Education – Creative Games and Athletics

PSHE – Keeping Myself Safe and Rights and Responsibilities.

Geography – Biomes and vegetation belts of North and South America.

French – Phonics 3 and 4, The Date, and My Home.


Homework in the Elder Class

Each week, children will be given spellings to practise in their homework folders, alongside daily reading for 20 minutes. English and maths homework will be set on our online learning platform, LBQ.

  • Homework folders are sent home each Friday

  • English homework is due on Tuesday

  • Maths homework is due on Thursday

  • A spelling test will take place every Friday morning
